Change To Retiree Prescription Drug Coverage

The State of Maryland’s prescription drug plan coverage for all Medicare-eligible State of Maryland retirees is changing on January 1, 2025. This change applies to all current and future Medicare-eligible retirees (age 65 and older or under age 65 and approved for Medicare disability).

This change does not affect current active employees who have State prescription drug coverage and who are not planning to retire in the near future.

The current State-sponsored prescription drug plan for retirees will end on December 31, 2024. University of Maryland, Baltimore retirees will need to enroll directly in a Medicare Part D plan during Medicare open enrollment between October 15 and December 7, 2024, to have prescription drug coverage on January 1, 2025. UMD retirees will select a Medicare Part D plan from the options available in their geographic area.

Important information regarding changes to retiree prescription drug coverage effective January 1, 2025 may be found on the Department of Budget and Management website.
