Receive Medical Treatment for a Work-related Injury

Purpose

Receive medical treatment for a work-related injury or illness at University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).

Applicability

Only for employees and volunteers on campus requiring emergency care for a work-related injury or illness.  Employees or volunteers covered under Maryland's workers’ compensation system may also seek treatment from a health care provider of their choice. 

If you are a student requiring medical care, please seek assistance with the Student Health Center.

Instructions

Emergency Care

  1. For an injury or illness requiring emergency care, call 911 and request emergency transportation.

 

University of Maryland Urgent Care:  Address: 105 Penn Street    Phone: 410-328-1660

Business Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  1. For non-life-threatening injuries, proceed directly to University of Maryland Urgent Care. No appointment is necessary.
  2. Take a copy of the first report of injury form with you to ensure you are not billed for the visit and the provider is aware the injury is covered by workers’ compensation. The forms are in the reporting section of this page.
  3. You should use Urgent Care for sprains or injuries requiring stitches or an x-ray.
  4. This facility does not accept patients with bloodborne pathogen exposures (BBPE). If you experienced a BBPE then proceed directly to UMaryland Immediate Care Center.

Business Hours: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  1. For non-emergency care, proceed directly to UMaryland Immediate Care Center. No appointment is necessary.
  2. Take a copy of the first report of injury form with you to ensure you are not billed for the visit. The forms are in the reporting section of this page.
  3. You should use Immediate Care for bloodborne pathogen exposures, biological exposures, animal bites, insect bites, or tetanus vaccine.

 

After Hours (including Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure): Monday through Friday 5 p.m. to 7 a.m., weekdays and holidays

  1. Proceed directly to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Emergency Room, your personal physician, or a local hospital.

 

Out Of State Medical Treatment

  1. If you work for UMB outside of Maryland, complete the out of state first report of injury form.  Additional instructions are contained on the form.
  2. Advise the health care provider that you are seeking treatment for a workers' compensation claim and provide them with the carrier's name referenced on the first report of injury form.
  3. Retain paperwork for your records.
