Outside Resources

External resources that a student may be using for educational costs are considered other financial assistance (OFA) and must be taken into consideration with all other federal, state, and institutional aid that the student has been offered. All aid, including any OFA, must not exceed the established cost of attendance (COA) determined by a student's program, enrollment, and residency status. Students should be aware that, per federal regulations, external resources may result in the reduction of a student's loan eligibility.

Students should report any expected external resources to University Student Financial Assistance so the award can be factored into the total aid offer and any necessary loan adjustments can be made.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of resources that are considered OFA:

  • External scholarships (i.e. scholarships awarded by private donors, alumni associations, affinity groups etc.)
  • Employer tuition remission and/or reimbursement
  • Fellowships or assistantships
  • Tuition or fee waivers
  • National Health Service Corps scholarships and stipends
  • VA Health Professions Scholarship Program (HSPS) tuition and fee scholarships and stipends
