School of Social Work Breaks Ground on Net-Zero Building

The new University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW) building, set to open in late summer 2027, will consolidate the school’s programs into a state-of-the-art, environmentally sustainable facility at 600 W. Lexington St. The 127,000-square-foot building will feature cutting-edge classrooms, research spaces, and community-focused amenities like a coffee lounge, rooftop garden, and communal gathering areas, all designed to prioritize equity, accessibility, and sustainability. With its net-zero energy design, LEED certification goals, and emphasis on fostering collaboration and engagement, the building will be a hub for social work education and a vibrant bridge between UMB and the surrounding community.
