UMB Working to Combat Impact of Climate Change on Health

UMB is addressing the intersection of climate change and health through innovative education and community-focused initiatives. A pilot course, “Climate Change, Health, and Society,” launched in spring 2024, brought together students from multiple disciplines to tackle environmental and health issues, such as those caused by the CSX coal terminal in Baltimore's Curtis Bay neighborhood. UMB aims to expand this approach into a model for interprofessional education, emphasizing the mitigation of climate-related health inequities, and hosted its first Climate Symposium on Oct. 9.
