Yes. Your professional email address is for UMB business needs while you are an employee. If you leave UMB employment, access to your professional UMB email is removed. Your UMB student and alumni email address is separate and you retain access to your student and alumni email regardless of your UMB employment status.
Email notifications to impacted accounts begin on April 16, 2025 and will continue until the project’s completion the week of June 16, 2025.
Email auto-forwarding in the UMB Google environment will be disabled on May 19, 2025 to enhance the security of UMB email accounts. For enrolled students, email auto-forwarding will be disabled on June 9, 2025 when their email address is moved to Microsoft 365. All access to UMB Google will be disabled on June 16, 2025. Please download any data you wish to keep by this date.
Actively used UMB Google alumni email addresses will be automatically moved to UMB Microsoft 365 beginning June 16, 2025. School of Medicine (SOM) alumni receiving a new alumni email address will have all new email sent to their original UMB Google alumni email address delivered to their new SOM alumni email address for one (1) year.
Yes, as an alumnus you can still receive a UMB Microsoft 365 alumni email address after the opt-in deadline. After the opt-in deadline passes, please contact the UMB Help Desk for assistance.
For alumni, UMB Office 365 provides only email. Cloud file or photo storage is not available.
Students who are enrolled at UMB and use a UMB Google email account will have their UMB Google email address moved to Microsoft 365 automatically on Monday, June 16, 2025. After the move date, activate your UMB Microsoft 365 email account by visiting the UMB Account Management website at https://directory.umaryland.edu and complete the activation process. If you are a continuing student, you must complete the activation process before your next registered semester begins.
Likewise, UMB alumni who are actively logging in to their UMB Google email account will have their email address moved to Microsoft 365 automatically on Monday, June 16, 2025. After the move date, activate your UMB Microsoft 365 email account by visiting the UMB Account Management website at https://directory.umaryland.edu and complete the activation process. This group can optionally move their UMB alumni email address to Microsoft 365 sooner by visiting the same website before the move date.
UMB alumni who are not actively logging in to their UMB Google email account can opt-in to receive an Microsoft 365 alumni email account by visiting the UMB Account Management website. Visit the UMB Account Management website at https://directory.umaryland.edu to complete the opt-in process.
If your UMB Google email address was automatically moved to UMB Microsoft 365, you first need to activate your Microsoft 365 UMB login by visiting the UMB Account Management website at https://directory.umaryland.edu and complete the activation process.
To access your UMB Microsoft 365 alumni email account, visit https://portal.office.com, log in with your UMB alumni email address & password, then click the Outlook icon to access your UMB alumni email account.
To access from a mobile device, install the Outlook app and follow the Add Account instructions from the instructions below.

No. To ensure the safety and security of your UMB email account, automatic forwarding of email to another email system or personal email account (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) is not allowed.
