Banner

Banner by Ellucian is UMB’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that manages student information from admissions through graduation.  The application is used by all schools and administrative offices throughout campus.

Banner is accessible and used in two different ways.  Staff rely on Banner “Admin Pages” to accomplish various administrative tasks related to admissions, curriculum management, course registration, grading, awarding of degrees, etc.; whereas students use Self-Service Banner (SSB) or “SURFS” to review or update personal information, register for courses, view grades, pay tuition/fees, apply for graduation and more.  Additionally, faculty/instructors and advisors use SSB to enter grades and review academic performance for students they teach or advise, respectively.

How do I access Banner and SSB?

Access to SSB/SURFS is granted at the onset of becoming a student at UMB.  Access to Banner (Admin Pages), however, requires an approval process to ensure an employee’s job duties necessitate such privileged access.  Employees interested in gaining access to Banner should first have a discussion with their supervisor for more information.  Faculty/instructors and advisors looking to gain access to SSB should contact the records and registration office of their school or program for more information.
