If I’ve already had COVID-19 and recovered, do I still need to get vaccinated?

May 12, 2021

Getting vaccinated is a safer way of building protection against COVID than getting infected. So, yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you’ve already had COVID. Experts don’t yet know how long you’re protected from getting sick again after recovery, and it’s possible—though rare—that you could be infected again with the virus that causes COVID-19.

If you were treated for COVID-19 with monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma, you should wait 90 days before getting a COVID-19 vaccine. Talk to your doctor if you’re unsure what treatments you received or if you have more questions about getting a COVID vaccine.
