UMB CURE SCHOLAR SPOTLIGHT: TITUS ROOKS

Titus Rooks

Titus Rooks is a cohort 5 scholar and 8th grader at Southwest Baltimore Charter School.

Titus began his journey with the UMB CURE Scholars Program in 2019 as a sixth grader. He is currently in the CURE Catalyst program and will be transitioning to the CURE Connections High School program (C2) in the summer. We caught up with Titus recently to hear about his experience in CURE.


Q: What is your favorite thing about the CURE Scholars Program?

A: My favorite thing about CURE is doing the big projects like researching lung cancer and doing experiments. I like coding and doing math because it challenges me and it’s fun. I like trying to figure out the answers.

Q: How were you able to stay motivated during this year of virtual learning?

A: My family encouraged me to stay motivated. I also knew that CURE would help me and my future.

Q: What are your favorite STEM subjects?

A: I like coding and doing math because it challenges me and it’s fun. I like trying to figure out the answers.

Q: What would you like to be when you grow up?

A: I would like to work with technology and sports, maybe as an IT manager for the NBA or NFL, because I enjoy learning about new technology.
