Clinical assistant professor and director of Student Advocacy and Cultural Affairs at School of Dentistry fosters a supportive environment for students.

At the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD), Andrea Morgan, DDS, MS, clinical assistant professor and director of Student Advocacy and Cultural Affairs (SACA), is widely recognized for her approachability and mentorship of students, particularly those from underrepresented populations.

As SACA director, Morgan works to foster an environment in which all UMSOD students feel heard and supported in both academic and nonacademic aspects of their dental educations. She listens to students in need, then pairs them with faculty or peer mentors, provides academic support and guidance for students taking the National Board Dental Examination, and helps them access a range of campus services.

Morgan also serves as faculty advisor to UMSOD’s chapter of the Student National Dental Association, which promotes and supports underrepresented dental students. For several consecutive years, UMSOD’s impressively successful chapter has received national recognition for its fundraising, public service work, and outreach aimed at encouraging high school and undergraduate students in underrepresented populations to pursue careers in oral health.

Morgan has served the Diversity Advisory Council in various capacities, most recently as co-chair of its Education and Awareness Committee.
