Blackboard

Blackboard is a web-based virtual learning environment and learning management system used for course management to supplement traditional face-to-face learning, fully virtual learning and various hybrid methods.  Additionally, Blackboard integrates seamlessly with Ally, a content accessibility service that helps build inclusive environments and makes digital content more accessible.

Use of Blackboard may vary by school, department and/or instructor.  Blackboard administrators, who are often UMB personnel on instructional design/technology teams within each school, primarily oversee content on the platform.  These individuals work closely with instructors to help manage their course content in the application.

How do I access Blackboard?

Blackboard is accessible through the Blackboard link found on every umaryland.edu webpage.  Any registered student or employee of UMB can log-in to Blackboard using their UMID and password.  Content in Blackboard varies based on student course registration. Courses will only appear after the instructor makes it visible.

In some instances, alumni and affiliates may also be able to access Blackboard for specific purposes.   Students should check with their instructors if/how Blackboard is used for their courses.  Instructors interested in using Blackboard should consult the instructional technology personnel/team in their school for more information.
