UMB recommends that you dispose of any unused or unwanted prescription medications and drugs via an authorized drug take back program. In addition to the options listed below, you can contact your county health department, local police department, or a retail pharmacy to learn about additional drug disposal locations.  The FDA website provides information regarding medicines that can be flushed; however, we would encourage you to dispose of medications and drugs using a take-back program as a more environmentally sustainable option.   

UMB Police Department & Generation Rx Drug Take Back Days

The University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department collaborates with Generation Rx in the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) in the School of Pharmacy to provide a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Take Back Initiative twice a year. UMBPD holds a Prescription Drug Take Back Day in April and October each year, which coincides with the DEA National Take Back Initiative. Members of the UMB community can turn in unused or expired medications for safe disposal during one of the Drug Take-Back Days. For additional information, please contact Sgt. John R. University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Pharmacies

The three outpatient pharmacies in the University of Maryland Medical System have secure collection drop boxes for unwanted, expired and unused medications. The drop boxes are for general public use, and are not restricted to individuals who have medications dispensed through the University system. Contact the Weinberg Pharmacy (first floor – main hospital) at 410-328-5233, the University Pharmacy at Redwood (corner of Redwood and Paca) at 410-328-5243, or the Midtown Campus Pharmacy (821 N.
