New Graduates Speak Out

Etai Gamliel, School of Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy

Etai-GamlielUMB’s mission is to improve the human condition and serve the public good. How do you plan to do that as a new graduate?

“Well, as physical therapists we’re here to help doctors post-op or if patients need your help. I came into physical therapy after my brother was injured in Iraq and I also had a serious injury of my own, so I have an appreciation for helping others and serving others. I’m very happy to get to this point and I’m excited about starting my career.”

Did you do some work in the community while you were here?

“I did work with Wounded Warriors over the course of my physical therapy schooling. That's something that’s very rewarding to me, something I enjoy that I’ll continue doing.

Do you have a favorite memory from that?

“Probably water skiing. Water skiing is great fun in the sense that there are a lot of things that go into it and we use adaptive equipment to help a lot of these warriors who whether or not they’ve had amputation you’re able to get them to do some of the things they used to be able to do and are still able to do. It puts a smile on their face and a smile on our face being able to help them.”
