Wilbur Chen, MD, MS, FACP, FIDSA
Wilbur Chen is a professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, director of the Travel Medicine Practice, and chief of the Adult Clinical Studies section at the Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health.
Dr. Chen is an internist/infectious disease physician-scientist with expertise in vaccinology. His research interest is in two major areas: developing vaccines for older adults (a rapidly growing segment of the global population that is susceptible to many infections and a special population that generally responds poorly to vaccination) and vaccines against enteric bacterial pathogens (infectious diseases chiefly of resource poor and economically disadvantaged populations).
In addition to his research, Chen has served on a number of advisory positions, including as a member of former Gov. Larry Hogan’s COVID-19 Task Force and a core member of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases’ Data and Safety Monitoring Board.
