Federal Orders and Court Actions

Jan. 29: Executive Order Issued: "Additional Measures to Combat Anti-Semitism" 

The executive order Additional Measures to Combat Anti-Semitism was issued. This order reaffirms executive order 13899 from the first Trump administration and directs additional measures to advance the policy in the wake of the Hamas attacks of Oct. 7, 2023, against the people of Israel. Section 3 of the order, “Additional Measures to Combat Campus Anti-Semitism,” impacts universities. The order states that within 60 days, executive department heads must report actions to combat anti-semitism, including an analysis of complaints and actions, while the Attorney General will review relevant court cases and may use civil rights enforcement. The Secretary of Education will examine Title VI complaints, and the Secretaries of State, Education, and Homeland Security will collaborate on recommendations for monitoring and addressing anti-semitic activities by foreign students and staff. 

Jan. 21: United States Department of Homeland Security Issued a Statement on Expanding Law Enforcement and Ending the Abuse of Humanitarian Parole 

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a Statement from a DHS Spokesperson on Directives Expanding Law Enforcement and Ending the Abuse of Humanitarian Parole. The first directive rescinds the Biden administration’s guidelines for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforcement in or near so-called “sensitive” areas, which include schools, hospitals, and churches.

Jan. 20: Executive Order Issued: "Protecting the American People Against Invasion" 

The Trump administration issued the executive order Protecting the American People Against Invasion, which mandates the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security to review contracts, grants, and agreements between the federal government and “non-governmental organizations that support or provide services, directly or indirectly, to removable or undocumented immigrants.”
