Thaddeus Baker

Sgt. Thaddeus BakerAfter 15 years as a police officer for the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD), Sgt. Thaddeus Baker is one of only three UMBPD officers promoted to the role of Sergeant starting March 1.

"[My favorite part of being an officer is] knowing that every single day I serve, I've made a difference," Baker says. "I have helped my department in its mission to this University."

Baker represents and serves as a member of the Honor Guard team for UMBPD. His most memorable moment is marching in the Martin Luther King Jr. parade. He aims to earn a master's degree in school guidance counseling.

For Baker, becoming a police officer was a calling. He considers himself to be fair yet firm when dealing with difficult people.

On the job, Baker says receiving a simple "thank you" is the greatest feeling. "When your service is recognized and appreciated, that's a great achievement," he says.

Students new to UMB should get involved with student organizations and familiarize themselves with the array of services UMB has to offer, says Baker.

Outside of work, Baker describes himself as a "movie buff" and likes to attend film festivals.
