Chelsea Jarrard

Chelsea Jarrard Chelsea Jarrard worked at the University of Maryland Medical System for 18 years before joining the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Department of Police and Public Safety. The office manager says she's "new to the crew" since June 17.

"Multitasking is my thing!" she says. "There is always room for professional growth while maintaining a work life balance."

Jarrard is always on her feet. She can be found bouncing between offices of the other administrative professional who work for and with her. "I love checking on staff," she says. "'What can I help you with?' 'How's your workload?' It's important to create a balanced employee environment."

It's clear that Jarrard takes pride in her team. "I want to instill confidence in them," she says. "Change can be a good thing! With change comes new opportunities for everyone."

Since joining the department, the excited Public Safety team (including the Public Information Officer writing this!) has been giving lots of new tasks to Jarrard. "Everything happens all at once," says Jarrard. "I just have to take one small thing at a time. I try not to become overwhelmed, and always make a list!"

For those who are new to UMB, Jarrard recommends taking advantage of the University's opportunities. "Take a tour! Go to that meeting! See all there is to see," she says. "UMB offers more than what you think. Take advantage of it!"

In the future, Jarrard hopes to work on her professional development. "I want to grow and watch others grow," she says. "As the saying goes, 'see one, do one, teach one.'"

Outside of work, Jarrard enjoys painting old furniture and watching her children play sports. She says her favorite color is yellow, which matches her sunny personality!
