Human resources (HR) specialist Millicent Holmes stepped into the brand-new role with the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Department of Police and Public Safety in June 2024. 

“It feels like I belong here,” she says. “Everyone is so friendly and accommodating!”

Holmes enjoys getting to know others and improving strategies, training, and development. She says her greatest achievement on the job is her ability to build trusting relationships in difficult situations. 

“I realized that who I am inside translates into the professional I am outside,” Holmes says. “Exploring and creating a presence that is rooted deeply in my own personal values and purpose helps me to help others.”

The HR specialist encourages others to challenge themselves and step outside their comfort zone. Through her role, she works to deliver a cohesive employee experience and contribute to UMB’s culture of well-being. 

Outside of work, Holmes, enjoys interior decorating, shopping, and spending time with family. Her favorite movie is “Pretty Woman.”

“I’ve watched it more than 100 times,” she says.
