I invite you to read summaries of the grantees’ exciting global health projects.

This has been an extraordinarily productive year for global education at UMB. CGEI faculty and staff have advanced critical initiatives for global and interprofessional program growth through a variety of new activities, bringing UMB to the forefront of global health education.

Last March, CGEI—co-directed by Jody Olsen, PhD, MSW, and Virginia Rowthorn, JD—sponsored a standing-room-only workshop on global/local education at a conference hosted by the Consortium of Universities for Global Health. The workshop will be followed up with a national roundtable on the topic to be held at UMB on Feb. 12.

The roundtable will bring together leaders in community engagement and global health to discuss how health projects at the international and local community levels intersect, and the importance of fostering bi-directional learning in future leaders. Visit  for more information about the roundtable.

I thank CGEI, the Global Health Interprofessional Council, and faculty Universitywide who have facilitated such impressive progress in global health education. Please join me in congratulating our 2016 grantees and their collaborators, as well as all those whose hard work makes these important grants possible.

Sincerely,

Jay A. Perman, MD
President
