To the UMB Community:

President Trump signed an executive order yesterday temporarily barring travel to the U.S. from six countries: Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. The order replaces a travel ban issued in January that was suspended following court challenges.

The new order, which takes effect on March 16 and bars travel for 90 days, is not expected to affect students, faculty, or staff from the designated countries who currently hold valid visas. However, it remains unclear what the impact will be on those who need to renew their visas in order to continue their studies, research, or work in the U.S.

Therefore, as I did in January, I urge any visa-holding individual from these six countries to contact Amy Ramirez for guidance on travel plans. Ms. Ramirez is director of international services in the Office of Academic Affairs and can be reached at 410-706-7488.

Our University is better when we invite people from all nations to be a part of it. Our work is better when they contribute their talents and perspectives, shaping what we value and what we stand for. We support our international students and colleagues, and reaffirm to them that they are worth our fight for a just, humane, and inclusive America.
