Call for Nominations: Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Recognition Awards

To the UMB Community:

Each year, we reinforce UMB’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by honoring those who demonstrate an extraordinary dedication to these ideals.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Recognition Awards go to individuals or groups at UMB whose personal or professional work sustains Dr. King’s legacy of building a free and just society. The award is presented in three categories: outstanding faculty member or faculty unit; outstanding staff member or staff unit; and outstanding student or student group. All nominations are due by Wednesday, Nov. 21. Please share this note with colleagues who don’t have email access.

The awards will be presented during UMB’s Martin Luther King Jr./Black History Month celebration on Feb. 6, 2019, at noon, in the Medical School Teaching Facility’s Leadership Hall. Our speaker for the ceremony is Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, JD, an alumna of our Francis King Carey School of Law.

Questions may be directed to Vanessa Fahie, PhD, RN, vice chair of the Diversity Advisory Council, at 410-706-7501.

I consider it an enormous privilege to recognize each year the students, faculty, and staff who live our core value of diversity and whose scholarship and service honor the life and work of Dr. King. Please consider nominating a student or a colleague today.

Sincerely,

Jay A. Perman, MD
President
