Dear Colleagues:

I'm delighted to share with you that Kevin P. Kelly, JD, has been promoted to chief government affairs officer and vice president. Kevin joined the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) in 2012 and has led the Office of Government Affairs since 2014.

Kevin develops and implements the University's governmental and political engagement strategy with federal, state, and local officials; regulatory agencies; and key policymakers. He advises senior leadership on the impact of proposed legislation and determines appropriate responses, while working to enhance UMB's reputation by identifying challenges and opportunities, developing targeted initiatives, and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships at the local, state, and federal levels.

Most recently, Kevin has been an integral part of UMB's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as a member of the President's Crisis Management Advisory Group and coordinating with elected officials and regulatory agencies on behalf of the students, faculty, and staff at UMB.

Kevin will continue to report to Jennifer B. Litchman, MA, senior vice president for external relations and special assistant to the president. I know you join me in congratulating him on this recognition of his work.
