Dr. Ward named interim vice president for Academic Affairs

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to let you know that Roger J. Ward, EdD, JD, has been named interim vice president for Academic Affairs effective June 11, 2011.

Dr. Ward will take the reins from Malinda Orlin, PhD, who retires after a decade of service in this capacity, until a national search for Dr. Orlin’s successor is concluded.

Dr. Ward joined the University of Maryland in 2009 as the associate vice president for Academic Affairs. He serves as the chief student affairs officer for the university overseeing an administrative portfolio that includes all the centralized student services and programs. Prior the joining UMB Dr. Ward served as assistant vice president for Student Affairs at the New School in New York City, and also held senior administrative positions in the City University of New York system.

Dr. Ward’s advanced degrees include a master’s in public administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a juris doctor degree from New York Law School, and a doctor of education degree in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania.

Please join me in welcoming Roger in this new interim role at the university.

Sincerely,

Jay A. Perman, MD
President
