Dear UMB Community,

This afternoon, U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley extended the temporary restraining order (TRO) against the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) recently issued guidance regarding indirect costs for research. 

As I shared on Feb. 10, on behalf of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and the state of Maryland, Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown joined with attorneys general from 21 states to file an emergency petition to seek a temporary injunction against the NIH's recently issued guidance regarding indirect costs for research.

Judge Kelley extended the TRO until a permanent decision is reached. We hope the critical research conducted at UMB and across the country is safeguarded. We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates in this legal process.
