Each season, “The UMB Pulse” shares stories about UMB change makers who are taking creative action to overcome barriers and solve social problems in our own community, across the state of Maryland, and globally. Furthering the mission of UMB President Bruce Jarrell’s commitment to Maryland, these stories shed light on programs in our own “backyard” as well as amazing UMB efforts on the other side of the world.
We also share stories about our alumni change makers who are shakers and movers doing interesting work that makes an impact, create new takes on old problems, or are industry experts.
Other “bonus episodes” cover topics of interest including information, insights, and fun facts about unique landmarks on and near UMB’s campus in downtown Baltimore.

‘The UMB Pulse’ Podcast

“The UMB Pulse” podcast invites you to listen to our engaging conversations with inspiring people about the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), the people who make it tick, and the impact UMB has on Baltimore and beyond.
Why This Podcast … and Why These Topics?
At its onset in 2021, “The UMB Pulse” aimed to be a mechanism for people to obtain informative, timely, and transparent post-pandemic return to campus communications as faculty, staff, and students navigated from teleworking and telelearning to an in-person or hybrid model. It served as a way to get back in touch with the “heartbeat” of UMB after more than a year of disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the fall of 2021 “The UMB Pulse” evolved into a topic-driven podcast geared toward sharing interesting and engaging stories.

Hosts
“The UMB Pulse” is co-hosted by Charles Schelle and Dana Rampolla, who both work for the Office of Communications and Public Affairs (OCPA). “The UMB Pulse” is an OCPA production.
Dana Rampolla is the director of integrated marketing for OCPA. In addition to her roles in marketing and event coordination in higher education, private sector business, and the medical field, she’s spent most of her adult life behind the camera as a family portrait photographer. Closest to her heart, however, is being her family’s biggest cheerleader. She’s currently embracing a new chapter in life by carving out more quality time with her husband curating living spaces, DIYing, traveling, shark tooth hunting, and being on the “sidelines” watching their five children “adulting.”
Charles Schelle is the lead social media specialist for OCPA. He has held various roles in his career as a journalist, web producer, and media relations professional. In his spare time, you'll find him in net playing goalie in local adult hockey leagues, conquering his bucket list of seeing a game at every NHL arena, or visiting parks with his dog, Gizmo. He was born in Hagerstown, Md.
