Specialty Recycling Collection at UMB

UMB collects specialty recycling in April and October for Earth Month and Campus Sustainability Month, respectively. Keep an eye out for the collection bins in the SMC Campus Center and the first floor of the Lexington Building.

Books in good condition should be donated to the Little Free Library

Books in poor condition should be collected through a Bulk Disposal work request

Clothing

Clothes and home furnishings

Document shredding and recycling

Campus-wide contract with The Shredding Company, Inc.

If using a personal shredding device, please bag shredded paper and place to the side of paper/cardboard bins for collection by EVS custodial technicians

Electronics (UMB-Issued)

Any electronics issued by UMB for your work use (laptop, mouse, keyboard, etc.)

IT Disposal System

Electronics (Personal)

Any personal electronics items (computers, phones, charging cords, etc.)

Ink and toner cartridges

Used/empty ink and toner cartridges from printers and copy machines

Fill out the EHS chemical waste removal request form

Many manufacturers (including HP, Ricoh/Savin/Lanier, and Epson) have free take-back programs

Plastic bags and film

Shopping bags, produce bags, Ziploc bags, air pillows, bubble wrap, cereal bags, plastic overwrap, etc.

Surplus property

Including furniture, office supplies, equipment, etc.
