Charles C. Chen, DDS

Chen graduated from the University of Maryland receiving a BS degree and a DDS degree. At the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, University of Maryland, he participated in the Accelerated Professional Training (Honors) Program to obtain his dental degree. He continued studies there, completing his Post-Doctoral Residency in Periodontics.

After graduation, Chen was invited to join the practice of his mentors, Dr. Zupnik and Dr. Winson. Since then, he has taught the postgraduate periodontal residency program and conducted connective tissue research, for which he received a U.S. patent on bone/tissue regeneration. He is the founding member of numerous dental organizations and is currently participating with federal and state initiatives shaping the regulations on digitizing dental records for patient safety in prescription drugs.

He was listed by Washingtonian magazine as one of the “Top Periodontists” in every issue published and also recognized by Bethesda Magazine, Washington Consumer Checkbook, and Angie’s List. He received a perfect score from the Consumer Checkbook for care and service (voted by patients) and got the most votes as the  “Best Periodontist” selected by his peers. 

Chen has served on the UMBF Board of Trustees since 2019.
