The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Emergency Management Fellowship Program was inaugurated in 2022.  Applications are accepted starting in January each year with one applicant being selected to serve a paid 12-month term. This fellowship opportunity offers several notable benefits for participants. Here are some key advantages:

Comprehensive Training: The fellowship program provides comprehensive training in the field of emergency management. Fellows gain knowledge and skills related to disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. The program covers a wide range of topics, including emergency operations, public health emergencies, crisis communication, risk assessment, and more.

Practical Experience: The fellowship program emphasizes hands-on experience, allowing fellows to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. Fellows may have the opportunity to work with local, state, or federal emergency management agencies, healthcare organizations, or other relevant institutions. This practical experience enhances their understanding of emergency management principles and best practices.

Networking Opportunities: The fellowship program provides excellent networking opportunities. Fellows have the chance to connect with professionals in the emergency management field. These connections can be valuable for future career prospects, collaboration, and ongoing professional development.

Professional Development: The program focuses on the professional development of fellows. Through workshops, seminars, and mentorship, fellows can enhance their leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. They also have access to resources and tools that can further their career growth in the field of emergency management. The fellow will be provided support in completing requirements for IAEM Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) during the fellowship term.

Alumni Network: Upon completion of the program, fellows become part of the UMB Emergency Management Fellowship Program's alumni network. This network offers continued support, professional connections, and ongoing learning opportunities, further contributing to the fellows' long-term success in the field.

Overall, the UMB Emergency Management Fellowship Program equips participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, practical experience, and professional network to excel in the dynamic field of emergency management.
